We are excited to announce that Hydrogen of Dutch Origin (H2DO) has been awarded a ‘Topsector Energie Industrie studies Waterstof en Groene Chemie’ (TSE) subsidy by the Dutch Government, supporting the advancement of the “Offshore Midsized Green Hydrogen Feasibility and Concept Study.”
This study marks a significant milestone in furthering the Netherlands' offshore renewable energy ambitions and positions Dutch companies at the forefront of the energy transition.
About the Feasibility Study
Our study will focus on the conceptual design, building, installation, and operation of an offshore green hydrogen production facility (30–50 MW electrolysis) within the Hollandse Kust Noord wind area. Key elements include:
Pre-FEED engineering of a 30-50 MW offshore green hydrogen production facility
Electricity feed-in and green hydrogen evacuation
Assessment of requirements for regulatory compliance (permittability)
Key Focus Areas
Beyond technical innovation, our study will place strong emphasis on:
Knowledge sharing – advancing sector-wide learning through public insights and benchmarks
Safety and Security – adhering to the highest standards in design and operation, and safeguarding infrastructure and operations for robust energy supply
Ecology, ESG, and Circularity – minimizing environmental impact and embedding circular principles
‘Route-to-Market’ options and requirements to achieve RFNBO certification
This feasibility study will serve not only as the foundation for Demo-1 and Demo-2, but is also geared towards boosting confidence in commercial-scale rollout of offshore green hydrogen in the North Sea. Results are designed to directly inform business cases, and support policymaking for the industry at large.
“We are very excited to start this important first step, a thorough and broad feasibility study, together with our partners. Offshore green hydrogen is the missing link for Dutch and Northwestern European offshore renewable energy ambitions—so there is no time to waste. We at H2DO are mission-driven and aim to lead. Not by just talking, but by doing and making it happen. Our team is therefore eager to begin, as this means that when Demo-1 opens, we will be able to hit the ground running and move straight into the FEED phase, saving valuable time. Organizations interested in being part of this 30-50 MW feasibility study: please do not hesitate to contact us, as a few spots remain in this first-of-its-kind project. Let’s accelerate the future of offshore green energy—together,” says Patrice Hijsterborg, managing partner of H2DO.
A special thank you to RVO (Netherlands Enterprise Agency) and the Dutch Government for supporting offshore renewable energy innovation and sustainable progress in our sector as offshore green hydrogen production is a pivotal part of the future energy mix.
